Well let’s start at the beginning then; there are essentially two areas of cover there is inpatient treatment, should you need to go in hospital, and outpatient treatment should you need to see a specialist, therapist or have test carried out without having to stay in a hospital.
The inpatient treatment is called by most providers core cover and deals with the most expensive part of medical insurance, so it covers the inpatients and day patients side off things; in other words if you needed to go into hospital for any reason at all your costs would be covered in full; drugs, dressings, surgery costs, in addition to that the cost of any cancer treatment would be covered in full as well and also the M.R.I, CT or PET scans again covered in full. This we like to call a ‘safety net plan’ that covers the most expensive part of medical insurance.
In addition to this you can add outpatient cover to the policy, in other words consultations with specialists, physiotherapy, x-rays, blood tests etc to mention a few.
All the companies will offer you fully comprehensive; say you needed to see a consultant once a day for a year the costs would be covered in full or you can opt to have a budget of say £1000 a year or £600 a year to lower the premium. We help guide you through the different options to ensure you have the right level of cover at the best possible premium.
If we use an average consultation with a specialist as being about £100 to £150; you could argue that a £1000 is a good sum of money to cover it for the year, you could also say £600 is enough or you can opt not to limit it and go fully comprehensive and take away the risk of running out of cover.
So essentially those are the two types of cover but all providers have different schemes with slight variations which we will be able to advise on including NHS cash benefit, dental and optical cover, alternative medicine, private ambulance, psychiatric treatment, maternity cash benefit to mention a few.
